Wild Food & Colour Walks in Bristol

SEASONAL WALKS ALONG THE RIVER FROME, BRISTOL

A walk along the river through the woods learning about wild foods, natural dye plants, and medicines.

- Learn how identify wild food in order to make wild food meals throughout the year. How to identity the poisonous plants you could mistake them for.

- Learn how to identify wild natural dye plants. From tree barks, to flowers, berries, leaves, roots, fruits, nuts, and seeds, get an overview of how to harvest and extract colour from plants growing all around us for dyeing textiles. Which plants can be used as mordants (fixatives), which plants work best on different types of fabric, and when to harvest different parts of the plant.

- Exploring how different plants effect us throughout the seasons.

Spring - Spring greens, flowers. Explore the vast diversity of edible spring plants, there are over 40 different wild greens you can eat in the spring. Learn the poisons you could mistake them for. February - May

Summer - Seeds, flowers, leaves. Learn how to gather wild seed for bread and spices. Which flowering plants and trees you can use for medicine. As the summer sun peaks, this is the best time to harvest wild natural dye plants. Shelter from the bright summer sun under the trees by the water where we can find many useful plants. June - August

Autumn - Fruits & Berries, Roots, Nuts, Lichen, Leaves, Seeds & spices. Explore autumns generous abundance of bright red, purple, brown, and orange beneath blue skies. Learn low effort methods for processing autumn foods. September - November
